At the Vettuvam glimpse launch, Arya said Pa Ranjith first pitched the film as a small ~60-day project so they could then move to Sarpatta Parambarai 2. Ranjith initially said there was no role for him — then called him back, told him not to hear the full story first (“you won’t do it if I tell you”), and brought him on. Kalaiyarasan’s character was added as the canvas grew.

Arya said the budget talk moved from roughly ₹25 crore to around ₹75 crore as apocalyptic and sci-fi touches expanded. He called Ranjith one of India’s best and “egoless,” noting the director felt Thangalaan didn’t reach as wide as hoped and is determined Vettuvam connects bigger — “hats off to you, sir.”
