The official trailer for Sardar 2 was unveiled at a launch event in Chennai, revealing the film's prequel-sequel structure. While the 2022 original followed Vijay Prakash uncovering his father's secret life, the trailer for Sardar 2 dials back the clock to show a younger Chandra Bose — a Murugan devotee recruited for a covert black ops mission that goes wrong. The rest of the film appears to connect Sardar's mission to his son Vijay Prakash's story, completing the narrative arc across both films.

Directed by PS Mithran, Sardar 2 features Karthi reprising his dual role as father and son, with SJ Suryah as the antagonist. Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Yogi Babu and Rajisha Vijayan are also part of the cast. Sam CS composes the music, with George C Williams on cinematography and Vijay Velukutty editing. Produced by Prince Pictures and Ivy Entertainment, the film releases on September 10.
