Director AR Murugadoss has opened up about an alternate climax that was originally planned for his blockbuster film Kaththi, starring Vijay.
Speaking about the idea, Murugadoss said that the film’s opening sequence shows Sathish watching a horoscope programme on television, marking Vijay’s entry into the story. On similar lines, the director had conceived a parallel ending for the film.
According to Murugadoss, the climax was initially planned with Samantha watching the same horoscope show. As the doorbell rings, Vijay’s character would enter the house, following which the end credits would roll.
However, the sequence was eventually dropped. Murugadoss explained that the song “Yaar Petra Magano” had emerged as a major emotional high point by then, and the team felt that adding another scene after it might dilute the film’s emotional impact.
As a result, the makers chose to retain the existing climax, which went on to be widely appreciated by audiences.
