The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed by actor Ravi Mohan seeking an extension of the deadline imposed on the Family Welfare Court to decide on an interim maintenance plea filed by his estranged wife, Aarti Ravi.
The matter is part of the ongoing matrimonial dispute between the couple, which is currently being heard by the Family Welfare Court in Chennai.
Earlier, Aarti Ravi had approached the court alleging that Ravi Mohan had not paid interim maintenance from April 2025 onwards, including expenses related to their children's education. Claiming that her application had not been taken up for hearing, she subsequently moved the Madras High Court seeking directions for an expedited hearing.
Acting on her plea, the High Court had directed the Family Welfare Court to hear the matter and pass orders within two weeks.
Following this, Ravi Mohan sought additional time by filing a fresh petition before the High Court. However, during the hearing, Aarti Ravi's counsel opposed the request and argued against any extension of the timeline already fixed by the court.
Justice Abdul Quddhose, after hearing submissions from both sides, dismissed Ravi Mohan's plea. The court also directed the actor to approach the Family Welfare Court for any further relief connected to the proceedings.
With the petition dismissed, the Family Welfare Court is expected to continue hearing Aarti Ravi's interim maintenance application within the timeframe previously stipulated by the High Court
