Superstar Rajinikanth's reign in the Tamil film industry is no joke, and his command at the box-office even after 50 years is something to be reckoned with in Kollywood. 74 year old Rajini is currently gearing up for the release of an action thriller titled Coolie on August 14, 2025. 

A Sun Pictures production, Coolie is touted to have been made on a massive budget of Rs. 350 Cr. with Rajinikanth's remuneration alone amounting to Rs. 150 Cr. Coolie's writer, director Lokesh Kanagaraj is said to be taking home Rs. 5o Cr. So far Coolie's pre-release business from non-theatricals like the Rs. 110 Cr. OTT rights sale to Amazon Prime Video, satellite rights, and audio rights is estimated to be at Rs. 240 Cr.  

At this time, it has been revealed that Coolie is eyeing his history with a Rs. 80 Cr. minimum guarantee (MG**) overseas theatrical rights—the highest ever for a Tamil movie till date. The previous record for highest overseas deal was held by Vijay's 2026 release Jana Nayagan, which scored a sale for an estimated Rs. 70-75 Cr. in refundable advance*.

*A sum of money paid by a distributor to a producer, which is returned to the distributor if the film doesn't generate enough revenue to cover the advance.

**MG on the other hand is the payment made by a distributor to a producer for the rights to distribute a film, regardless of the film's performance. 

 

Final negotiations for the Coolie overseas rights are currently going on. The movie is also gearing up for the release of the first single Chikittu Vibe promo with music composer Anirudh Ravichander, and singer T Rajendhar.
