Chennai City Gangsters starring actors Vaibhav and Athulya Ravi in the lead is an upcoming comedy heist thriller that is all set to release in theaters worldwide on June 20, 2025. The movie revolves around a bank robbery planned by Pandi (Vaibhav) and Poochi (Manikandan Rajesh), who having lost a big amount of money given for safekeeping, seek the help of four eccentric ex-conmen—Split Soosai (Anandraj), Memory Dass (Motta Rajendran), Damar Lal (John Vijay), and Kudi Kumar (Sunil Reddy).
Film's fourth single Chillu Chillu reveals how this gang carries out the robbery—by building a Money Heist style underground tunnel from an establishment on the opposite side of the bank, and siphoning the loot through this route. Actor Sunil Reddy who plays Kudi Kumar is the real-life brother of film's lead star Vaibhav, and Chennai City Gangsters is their second film this year after Perusu.
During a recent promotional interview, Vaibhav has opened up about getting to work with his brother back-to-back. Speaking to 'The Cinema Express', the actor said, "Perusu was a film produced by Kathik Subbaraj and it was his idea that it would be a good idea to cast us (brothers) together. We have never thought that our chemistry would look good together and made conscious decisions of choosing films."
Further revealing about entering the world of acting, Vaibhav revealed, "My father in those days thought Sunil would become a doctor and I would become a software company engineer. But eventually when he saw us both on the same screen, he was happy". Vaibhav and Sunil's father is A. Kodandarami Reddy, who is best known for his hit Telugu films in the 80s and 90s, especially with Megastar Chiranjeevi.
Actor Vaibhav also revealed that he never saw his big brother Sunil becoming an actor too, and reasoned, "There was absolutely no chance (that I could have foreseen sharing screen-space with brother Sunil). He never even posed properly for family pictures. My elder brother was such a character. But now he is acting at full speed, is giving around tips. When he does big movies, I feel proud as his younger brother."
On future collaborations with Sunil, Vaibhav joked, "We have decided to give it a break". The actor smilingly said, "What exactly is the combination between us two". Chennai City Gangsters is written by debutant Vikram Rajeshwar, who has also directed the film alonside another debutant Arun Keshav. The movie is a production venture of BTG Universal, and its overseas distribution rights is with Tentkotta.
