Love You: Indian movie joins the list of world's first AI-generated films!

The technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been rapid in taking over spaces like the information sector, the art sector, and as a by-product, the movie making sector. On July 26, 2024 OTT platform Amazon Prime Video played host to the world's first AI-generated animated feature film, and the first AI anime feature film titled DreadClub: Vampire's Verdict.

That same year, Hollywood saw the release of another feature-length fully animated movie made entirely with AI tools, titled Where the Robots Grow (2024). The impact of Where the Robots Grow was far bigger, because the 1 hour 27 minute animated movie, produced by Tom Paton’s AiMation Studios, was top notch quality, made with the most cost-effective budget of $696 K (Rs. 5.95 Cr in today's INR rate), and a team of just nine crew members.

Now a Kannada movie in India has thrown its ring for the 'India's first' AI generated feature length film. Love You, funded by a Sidedahalli village priest named Narasimha Murthy, has been made with around 30 AI tools, and a meagre cost of Rs. 10 lakhs within a span of 6 months. Additionally Love You has been made with just two crew members—Narasimha Murthy, and a graphic artist-turned-AI technician, Nuthan.

"I won't claim the film is perfect as we worked within certain limitations, Even the regional censor officer pointed out inconsistencies in the characters' features from scene to scene. Creating emotional expressions was a challenge, and the lip-syncing is far from ideal."Narasimha Murthy, producer, director, dialogue writer, and lyricist of Love You

Love You has cleared censor formalities with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in India, and has been certified with an U/A. The film starring AI actors, comes with a runtime of 1 hour 35 minutes, and features 12 songs in it (all AI-generated).
